Party Tips for Your Teeth in the Summer

Posted .

The summertime is party time! Outdoor parties, picnics, and family gatherings usually mean there are lots of party foods. The next time you are putting food together for a party, remember these tips:

Go Seedless: There are few things as obnoxious as getting seeds stuck in your teeth. Not only is it annoying, but it can be damaging to your teeth. It can cause dental emergencies such as cracked teeth or damaged enamel. Serve buns without sesame seeds if you can, and try to avoid fruits such as blackberries, raspberries, or seeded watermelon. Try serving apples, pears, seedless watermelon, and seedless grapes instead.

The Big Cheese: Dairy products, such as that nice thick slice of cheddar for your grilled burger, are chock-full of calcium and phosphorous. These strengthen and support tooth enamel, and are necessary for good oral health. If you do choose to use cheese, especially at an outdoor party, be sure to follow food safety temperature guidelines to avoid getting sick.

Fancy Drinks: Instead of sugary drinks and sodas, try serving infused waters! Delicious, easy, and beautiful, infused waters are low in sugars and high in flavor and nutrients. Simply cube or crush fruit, veggies, or herbs and add them to cool, plain water. Try interesting flavors, such as watermelon-mint (remember, seedless watermelon!), cucumber-blueberry, or peach-strawberry with sage. Remember to use crushed ice! Chewing cubed ice can lead to chipped teeth and other dental emergencies, so it’s better not to tempt your guests.
